After a basic camera course in February and March
of 1979 conducted by Dean Yager of Nipawin, some students decided to form a camera club in
Nipawin. With the co-operation of Dean Yager who was quite seen on the idea . A
preliminary meeting was held at the Yagers's in April. In attendance was, Dave Evans, Dean
and Allyson Yager, Don Whyte and Glen Grassing. Dean Yager was elected President
and Dave Evans elected Secretary. There was no Treasure elected. A
list of prospective members was made up and hey were contacted by
phone. Members who joined at the following meetings were. Allan Shaw, Len Stark,
Norm Nichol, Lois Whenham, Marg Paidel
Wesley Swan, Jean Milowsy and Carroyln Grimm.
|
Len Stark declined the
nomination of Treasurer. Marg Paidel was elected. Meetings were held at the homes of
various members, twice a month or when it was convenient fees were set at $1.00 per
meeting for each member. The original name for the club was Photo Feinds, a few years
later the name was changed to Nipawin Camera Club. Meetings were then
held at the Nipawin Library. Since the mid week meetings were not convenient for some
members the meeting time was changed to the last Sunday of each month except for December
because of the holiday. Membership has fluctuated over the years due to members moving
away, losing interest or because of the other commitments. Members have come and gone
through the years but there are still a few originals here. Over the years the Camera Club
has gone on several field trips including.

We have held several
courses dealing with photography conducted by Ken Simpkins of Woodland Studios, Gerald
Crawford of Crawford Studios and Zack Hauser a well known photographer of Saskatoon.
Some members are active in the Prairie Region of Photographic Arts organization.
A group covering the Prairie Provinces with members from seventeen Camera Clubs
across the Prairies. The Annual meeting and outing is hosted by a different club
each year. From time to time we hold fund raisers to raise money for the club.
Fund raisers like filling a shopping cart full of empty film cans and selling
tickets to guess how many where in the cart. We gave out three prizes for the
closest guess. We raffled of a 35mm Automatic camera, a tripod, and camera bag.
We have traveled all over Northern Saskatchewan taking pictures. We have photographed
events in Nipawin's Sell-A-Thon, and Shole lake's Annual golf tournaments.
We hosted The
Prairie Region Of Photographic Arts Annual Convention at the Fish & Games
Building in
1997 at Nipawin.
